Young Rice Producers Program (YRPP)
A full season intensive Practical Training and Empowerment Program on Rice Production.
Objectives
* To encourage profitable rice production by Nigerian youths
* To train youth farmers on profitable rice production
* To support governments’ initiatives and plans towards sustainable rice production in Nigeria
* To generate employment through the rice value chain
* To support purposeful, visionary and committed young rice farmers
PROGRAM DETAILS
* Participants will be selected on basis of interest and not on ethnic, religion, cultural or gender basis
* Participants must be between 20-39 years age bracket
Participants will undergo a one year on-the-job training on
* Rice (OFADA & AGRIC) cultivation- Land Preparation Methods, Planting, Field Management, Crop Protection, Harvesting etc.
* Varying Rice processing methods
* Packaging, Marketing and Sales Techniques
* Personal Development and Business Enhancement Techniques
* Accessing Government and Non-Governmental Supports
* Each participant will be allocated 1 Hectare of rich arable land
* Each participant will be advanced the required input Seed and Herbicides (Pre-emergence and Post-emergence)
* On request and assessment, participants can be advanced cash and other things as may be applied for
Participants will be responsible for:
* Individual Day-to-Day personal up-keep
* Management and maintenance of allocated field
* All field improvement measures other than the preliminary inputs
50% of each participant’s harvest will be off-taken at the going market price. The remaining 50% of the harvest will be processed, packaged, branded and marketed by each participant.

Prospective participant must:
* Be between ages 20-49 years as at 31st December, 2015
* Be willing to commit the next 9 months or more fully to the program
